just to say i have ordered a couple of old boxes for people- some of these are ebay, some not. I will split boxes i own if people want specific boosters. Also just to say some boosters have been flying off the shelves- i saw one company sell all eleven boxes of their stock of cheap boxes of one old set to one buyer. That was eleven boxes of multicolour shock land madness at less than one fifty a booster, so its not surprising someone snapped em up. I suspect nearly any card that costs a packet in modern will be reprinted somewhere, so i wont be breaking the bank over boosters myself. Modern is in a bubble but if it gets joe back i do want to do it at some point. M

    interesting last night

drafted 1st pick emerge unscathed, letting a griffin go in white, some ok stuff in green.

next pack got passed vendetta with rare missing. No signal there, so took vendetta over a mid pick white card. vendetta was the best card in the pack, and is splashable.

3rd pack got passed one good blue card (realm- untap or tap x permanents), and three great white ones, including another emerge unscathed. Whatever i took i would be pushing the guys to my left in white. took the U card and then on in cut black and blue really well.

reward pack 2: consume the meek and corpse hatch passed to me - ger went into black later (4 color deck), but was out when it mattered to me. Sadly the hatch got passed.

took the meek and a glut of high qual U and B cards.

Just needed 3 cards from lat pack and got 6 or 7, inlcuding a training grounds that was just too late for me to do anything with.

had doubles of loads of cards:

    realms (untap thingy)
    gloomhunters
    cadaverous imps
-x-x instant that has a name that escapes me
    U invokers
    merfolk observer

deck had single vendetta, consume, see beyond, bala ged scorpion, dread drone, perish the thought, chronologist, narcolepsy (bizarely late pick), virulent swipe,

curve was aggro/control- loads of 3 drops, but later game cards and early control spells too

beat jane from 1-0 down (2 6/6 islandwalkers, one had a luminous wake on. Ouch.).

Drew with james (he layed a deathless angel game 1 the turn after narcolepsy on a more minor player). won game 2 quickly after a fast start and removal spells to back up.

drew with al, nearly nicked it- extra turns consume the meek post devastating summons left him with no permanents and no cards in hand. sadly the act of killing a 1/1 killed my 4/1 and left me with only a 2/3. Should have tried to win by tapping all his men perhaps, but was worried as I didn't want a repeat of game one where he had stole game one on 2 life by hitting me for exactly my life total ( 9 with an unblockable kiln fiend and a 1/1 out of nowhere (should have layed another blocker, but i didnt want to waste an imp without reanimation).

    quick std report

    turnout: good
    deck variation : lots
enjoyable event and a good couple of hours after trading, playing etc

I ran a nice originalish deck; an apparent WW/R deck but in fact it was a tad different: main board avalanche riders combined with 8 sideboard land destruction spells + main board ghost quarters meant my match 2 vs control was genuine land destruction- 14 in total. It was for this reason i played trokair and gemstone cavern.

I supported most of the usual ww suspects; priests, en vec, angels and the fabulous javalineers but since my deck was not running sav lions or nimbus of true WW fashion for fast beats I went with ronom unicorn for more control vs glare. Rift bolt is better than most burn in LD and so char and helix were complimented by rift bolt. I ran 2 sunforger and 1 worship, as my high ish mana ratio [despite trokair thinning] was only there for post board land destruction.

I won my game 1 vs paul (WW) 2-1, losing game 2 cos I gambled on him not playing with hon passage, when I would have won my next turn anyway. I only boarded more magus and disenchant action here, v little.
Played io [wildfire/vore] and lost game 1, winning game 2 and 3 after land destruction mode came in for burn spells, ship and forgers.
Lost to leigh [suicide-ish black] 0-2, mulliganing to 1 land 5 card hands in both games. Irritating and funny [didnt mulligan in any other match, right no of mulligans for the day, but in 2 games]
Won final match vs joe 2-0 [UW atog enchantment], who at 1-0 down was not too pleased to see sunforger for the first time! He lasted about 15 turns with it in play though!

deck was good, played it cos it straight up beats zoo in testing and the land destruction mode is great vs control. Iffy vs glare, but those unsuspecting the LD element are more vulnerable. Ronoms in the main help as does sunforger and riders vs vitu or selesneya.

chris didnt do as well as i thought he would, leigh did great (4-0) but we all had a good time.
